Are you interested in the meaning of Number 13? Then this guide is for you.
In Numerology there are root numbers, compound numbers and master numbers.
Root numbers are the numbers from 0-9. Each has its own vibrational essence that influences the events that occur in our lives, acting like a map or GPS, keeping us on a heading toward our deeper purpose.
Most compound or multi-digit numbers, with the exception of the master numbers (11, 22, 33 etc…) get their meaning from the root numbers that make them up.
There are two ways that you can determine which root numbers will influence the vibrational meaning of any compound number you are considering.
One is to reduce the number in the way that Numerologists do to derive your life path number from your birth date.
The other is to consider the individual digits in that number.
By considering all of the possible numerological influences, we can see how multi-digit prime and compound numbers can provide us with clues to the larger aspects of meaning in our lives.

The Meaning of 13
The number 13 is generally considered to be an unlucky number, but it is actually no more or less lucky than any other number. To find the meaning of number 13 we should begin by reducing it to a root number:

The Symbolic Meaning of Number 13
The meanings that we associate with 13 being unlucky generally come from the symbolic and mystical associations that have come down from the ancient world.
In the Major Arcana of the Tarot, the 13th card is called Death or The Reaper depending on which deck you use.
This is often misunderstood as being a highly negative card.
The correct way to read the Death card in the Tarot is as a process of transformation and rebirth.
When Death appears in a Tarot reading it influences the spread by making all of the surrounding cards refer to a transformation process that the questioner has been undergoing, perhaps without even being conscious of it.
In symbolic terms, the number 13 actually refers to several key concepts include change, rebirth and transformation.
The Number 13 and Freemasonry
When the United States ratified the constitution and became a new nation with 13 states, our forefathers did not think that the number 13 was ominous or foreboding at all.
This is because most of the framers were Masons who believed that the number 13 was the number of good fortune.
This is why the original American flag and the seal that appears on the one dollar bill both displayed 13 stars in celebration of this happy coincidence.
Masons were master builders who applied the mystical principles of freemasonry to the larger spiritual aspects of life.
They recognized the affinity that 13 had with the highly fortunate numbers 1, 3 and 4, all of which contribute to highly creative and powerful material outcomes.
The number 1 in 13 is symbolic of the individual, while the number 3 symbolizes the power of unbridled creativity. When the masons saw the number 13 they saw a number that was symbolic of a transformational process that brings the individual to their perfected state.
It is also important to note that the number 4 is the number of mastery over the material sphere and the ability to lay solid foundations for the successful completion of projects.
The 1 and 3 in 13 then unite to become 4, indicative of the completion or perfection of the transformation indicated in number 13.

Number 13 and the I Ching
Further evidence that the number 13 is not necessarily an unlucky or unfortunate number is the I Ching hexagram associated with that number.
The 13th kua in the I Ching is usually translated ‘Fellowship With Men’ or ‘Sameness With People’ and refers to our ability to work with and organize others in productive activity.
The six lines of this hexagram are almost all powerful yang lines except for the second line with is a broken yin line, forming the symbol for fire in the lower section of the kua. The top trigram contains the symbol for Heaven, like this:
#13 Fellowship With Men
__ __ Fire
When looked at symbolically in this way, you have what Richard Wilhelm translates as ‘lumininaries in the heavens.’ Or quite literally a fire in the sky.

The Duality of Number 13
Luminous bodies in the sky have historically been read in two ways. They are either indicative of the promise of something positive, like the star of Bethlehem, or they are portents of some coming catastrophe, the way ancient people regarded the appearance of comets in the sky.
These two interpretations are similar to the way modern people view the number 13, either as extremely fortunate, or as an unlucky omen.
We now know that the supposedly catastrophic comets were actually following orbits that often took centuries to traverse and were not appearing randomly.
We should also consider the idea that the supposedly unlucky number 13 does not appear randomly.
Number 13 as a Message From Spirit
When the number 13 appears in your experience do not immediately see it as an omen of bad luck. Instead, see it as an indicator of the duality that is inherent in your current situation.
When 13 appears as a date, a time, address, as a dollar amount in your change or in a price that you are paying for something, it could be spirit drawing your attention to what you are doing.
The presence of 13 could be your soul asking you to consider the ‘lucky’ and ‘unlucky’ aspects of whatever you are involved in at that time.
